So there's been a lovely kerfuffle going on this week, the simple summary of which is, Can you be a hot girl and a nerd?

Leaving aside the irritating use of "girl" to describe adult women, I haven't really had any commentary other than a side-eye.

I finally figured out my response, left as a comment on the above linked post.

Here it is. Ready?

If you can’t be a hot girl and a nerd, what the hell have my best girl friends and I been doing since childhood?

Sheesh.

That’s really all I have to say on the subject, with a healthy punctuation of a full-body eyeroll.

There you go. There's my soundbite.

Disney purchases Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion in cash and stock.

FTA: It said the boards of Disney and Marvel have both approved the transaction, but it requires an antitrust review and the approval of Marvel shareholders.

This should be good.

Yet another movie that doesn't need to be remade is going to be remade.

Okay, look...The Crow isn't a great movie. It's not even that good. But it's got its own place in history, and also OMGWTFBRANDONLEE. The only time that movie could be made and work was 1994. The world is no longer that world. STOP IT, HOLLYWOOD.

Also? That movie needs Ernie Hudson. If he's not in the remake, I'm gonna be even more pissed.

Several weeks ago, Valerie D'Orazio, the Occasional Superheroine herself, emailed me offering me an exciting position with Friends of Lulu.

I am pleased to announce that I am now the Convention Director for Friends of Lulu!

For those of you not familiar with it, Friends of Lulu is a national nonprofit organization whose purpose is to promote and encourage female readership and participation in the comic book industry.

I am thrilled to have been asked to work with such a fantastic organization.

Expect to see me at the FoL table at a convention near you!

So we saw Iron Man this weekend. TOTALLY AWESOME.

I need to think more for a post about Iron Man's heart module and my own cardiac history. It struck me on a level I wasn't expecting.

That said...

Giant mechs fighting on the Freeway? Hell yeah! Pepper Potts running on grates in spike heels? Noooooo!

My belief can only be suspended so far, you guys.

So there's this comic called Married to the Sea. I don't read it, but [livejournal.com profile] bellasmommy and [livejournal.com profile] ebowthegirl do, and often post that day's strip. Today's is incredible. It's the best explanation of the last seven years I think I've ever seen.

Warning, may be upsetting. )

See what I mean?

I want to show this to everyone.
